Winter Flute Workshop

The Winter Flute Workshop is an annual event open to the flute studio and the general flute community that includes a traditional masterclass, an educational event and a closing recital.

Dr. Sarah Shin

Dr. Sarah Shin is a vibrant and eclectic performer, educator, and collaborator making waves in the music industry. As a Lecturer of Flute at Princeton University and a member of the Richardson Chamber Players, affiliated with Princeton University Concerts - Sarah’s passion for music shines through her work. Her role at Rutgers University MGSA Community Arts as a flute instructor and chamber music coach allows her to inspire the next generation of musicians.

Noteworthy performances include sharing the stage with Lizzo at the 2023 Met Gala, performing a tour with the Budapest MAV Symphony Orchestra in Konzerthaus Klagenfurt and Mozarteum Großer Saal in Salzburg, Austria, and performing with the Savaria Symphony Orchestra in Das MuTh Konzertsaal and Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. Upcoming performances include a Solo Concerto with the Prague Radio Chamber Orchestra in Smetana Hall, performing soloist with Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern, and a tour with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker in Germany and Austria. A native of Ames, Iowa, Sarah made her concerto debut at age 16, playing Jacques Ibert’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra with the Central Iowa Symphony Orchestra. She then moved to Boston, MA to attend the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, where she performed in the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra under conductor Frederico Cortese. She is also an honorary alum of the Young Artist Program at the Boston Flute Academy. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with honors in Flute Performance from Carnegie Mellon University School of Music, a Master of Music in Flute Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Along with being a soloist and educator, Sarah is an avid chamber musician and collaborator. She is a founding member of the Emissary Quartet, a flute quartet dedicated to new music. EQ notably was a quarterfinalist in the 2016 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, performed at the 2018 BMI Classical Music Awards Ceremony in New York City, and the National Flute Association's Convention. Sarah can be heard on all streaming platforms with her solo album under Sony Classical, “Mozart Concertos For Flute and Orchestra No.1 & No.2” with Conductor Christian Schulz and members of the Savaria Symphony Orchestra. Sarah is a William S. Haynes Artist and performs on a handmade custom Haynes 14k white gold flute.

Matt Klumpp holds a Masters of Music with an Emphasis in Collaborative Piano from Duquesne University. Matt performs with the Westmoreland Symphony, the Joan Chambers Concert Series at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, and as an accompanist with the Newlonsburg Music Academy and the Pittsburgh Flute Academy. Matt performs regularly in the jazz genre as well and maintains a private teaching studio at the Newlonsburg Music Academy. He is the newly appointed music director at Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church and an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.

Dan Parasky graduated from Boston University with a Master of Music in Music Education and an undergraduate degree in Music Performance from Duquesne University. His private flute students have successfully auditioned for various honor ensembles, soloist competitions and workshops at the local, regional, national, and international level. He is an adjunct faculty member at Duquesne University.

Dan is a flute choir enthusiast that has conducted honors ensembles at both the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention and the National Flute Convention. Mr. Parasky is serving as the Convention Flute Choir Coordinator with the National Flute Association from 2021-2025 for their annual conventions and helped launch the first ever NFA Flute Ensemble Festival.

Dan is a Wm. S. Haynes Artist and plays on a custom-designed 10k/14k flute featuring a 14k N-cut head joint, platinum riser, 10k body with silver mechanism, split E and C# trill key and 14k ribs, posts, and D# roller. He also plays an alto flute and piccolo from the Haynes-Amadeus line.
